Konya
Women: The inhabitants of this wealthy region had a comfortable way of life and dressed in rich fabrics with an oriental style. There were many layers of silk undergarments trimmed with gold threads and lace, and two overgarments made with expensive, oriental brocade edged with fur - usually ermine. Around the hips was wrapped a gold-embroidered silk scarf with gold tassels, then a silk belt with filigree gilt clasps set with precious stones and coral. The fortunes of the new bride were most apparent from the amount of gold sovereigns and pendants worn on the bodice. The hair was plaited in up to fifteen long braids, each decorated with coins. A triangular fez topped the head with filigree gilt, coins and a fine silk scarf hanging behind.
